In each session of the American History Girls’ Club, which is designed for girls ages 6 to 12, girls take part in crafts, activities, and a lesson surrounding one of the dolls from the popular American Girl® series.

The May 17 meeting, which is the final session of the spring season, will feature the “Kirsten” American Girl® doll and look at the year 1854 in America's history. Activities will include the following:

  • A museum-wide scavenger hunt that highlights artifacts related to several American Girl® dolls and their time periods.
  • Painting jewelry boxes in stencil patterns, a common decorative style in the mid-19th century.
  • Making chromatrope toys, which create colored optical illusions when turned.
  • Making butter from scratch.
  • Enjoying fresh buttermilk biscuits, locally-produced marmalade, and lemonade.

Admission for the American History Girls’ Club session is $20, which includes all craft materials. For more information, call the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society at (716) 873-9644 ext. 310.

There is a different theme each week and history is connected in a fun way. Pre-Registration is not required.

VINTAGE GAMES

Step back in time and play the way families did over 100 years ago. There were no televisions, computers or video games, but there were always enough people around to play games. Our trained staff will guide you through a variety of vintage games such as Graces, Hoop Races and Parlor Games. Many of these games were forfeit games so be prepared to perform in order to get your lost item back. This package includes a short tour of either Street of Shops or Pioneer Gallery.

Call for Docents

The History Museum wants YOU! If you have been looking for a worthwhile place to learn, teach, meet new people and have fun, the History Museum is the place for you. Come join our Education Department and expert Docents that will train you and help you help us to spread the museum's mission to share our knowledge and enthusiasm for protecting and remembering our rich history. A Docent is a volunteer with possible responsibilities that include: giving tours of exhibits, interacting with visitors, participating in and running Outreach Presentations throughout the community, research for and development of future programs.

Docent training meetings are held the first Monday of most months from 12-1PM with an informal “Brown Bag Lunch” and light training get together. More in-depth training takes place on most Wednesdays 10-11:30AM.

New Docents are needed and welcome to join anytime! Call 873-9644 ext. 311 for a Volunteer form to get started.
